Today was a brilliantly happy day because:
1) I had enough money to go to the Seattle Zoo for the first time in 5 years.
2) The sun shone on me.
3) I got to share my day with three 11-year-old girls who were happier than clams. . . if clams are happy.
4) I got to watch the people at the zoo, which were almost more fascinating than the zoo animals at the zoo.
5) I got to see 2 Malayan tapirs up close and look in their eyes and learn that: Their gestation period is 390 days plus (Holy Mackerel!), they are solitary creatures (like me), vegetarian (like me most of the time), mark their territory by spraying urine (unlike me), prefer to live near water (like me), and are “crepuscular,” meaning they take naps at night, not exclusively nocturnal (like me with my work schedule).
