As many do, even though I have a fully functional body, I have struggled lifelong with my appearance and receive a pretty continual mind signal to my body that it looks a lot worse than it actually does. My entire life is structured (subconsciously?) so that I avoid visibility. Even though I have done public speaking, I am happiest when not seen by others. The fact I could truly be content to wear a burlap sack probably speaks to my self-esteem or my priorities, or both.
So when I ran across two powerful stories that remind me of the blessings of inhabiting a fully functional body and societal selectivity around appearances, I thought I’d share them here.
