Sing to Your Heart

One of my fondest memories of early parenthood was a spontaneous nightly ritual of singing or humming to my young child. No one told me to do so. It simply arose from my heart.

It feels helpful in dark times to do the same for our own hearts entrusted in our care.

Amid despair and uncertainty for our planet and signs that America will be the first country out of 99% of countries on Earth to disavow climate change treaties and take the P out of our Environmental Protection Agency, it can feel like all our past actions on behalf of our common home are flushed down a toilet. We only need to sing to our hearts to know no action in love is ever wasted. Take heart. Be heart. Know one way or another our hearts are joined, singing a way forward.

Erin, Could be have a singing gathering maybe every couple of weeks in your home with you at the piano? Anything from Schubert to Pete Seeger to Bruce S. ? I don¹t care. Singing is good. I¹d help organize it if you could host? Ulla

I would love that, Ulla. As long as it’s made clear this is not going to morph into a performance group of any kind, I will gladly host an alcohol-free gathering. With my pet allergies, it’s really the only option if I am to be involved. You can invite people to bring whatever music they’d like, but as my skills are rusty, I would needs a heads up in advance of the next gathering to give time to allow my fingers to move in the appropriate general direction. The piano available to me is not great and the room poorly lit, but we can make adjustments. I’ll seek a good lamp. The spirit of the thing is what I gladly get behind or under or above. First or second Saturday or Sunday afternoons work best for me.
