Ravelry.com: eyesandhands (knitted gifts/commissions), waterwomanknits (my designs to be)
My grandmother taught me to knit when I was 6 years old. I can still feel her hands guiding mine as if it was yesterday. Knitting has become my favorite form of meditation and way of providing comfort to others. I feel connected to my ancestors, centered in myself, calm, at peace, and linked to a whole lineage of women and men around the world turning string into clothing with their hands. Knitting also became a lifeline for me while I was a hospital caregiver during a period of crisis.
Although I will continue to gift most of what I create to charity or people I encounter who may need comfort, I have started taking commissions at $10 per 100 yards of yarn. This averages to around:
$20-25 per fingerless gloves
$30 per hat
$30-50 per cowl or scarf
$70-100 per shawl
$100-200 per sweater
Find a pattern and yarn you like (I can direct you to possibilities if you want), and I can make it for you. Just holler and we can work out the details.
My 50th birthday gift. I provided yarn, family provided goodies to unwrap as I knit. With many other projects, goal is to complete the cardigan by the time I’m 51.
A few examples of empowerment by knitting. (Historical accounts suggest men were the first knitters with fishing nets).
